The Village of Bear Lake has a Blight Ordinance 2015.01 (see Ordinances) that is intended to keep our community safe, healthy, comfortable for everyone and allow everyone to fully enjoy their property. This is especially important when people live in close proximity as we do within the Village.
The Village contracted with the Manistee County Planning Department to design and administer a system for reporting, monitoring and enforcing blight complaints in accordance with our Blight Ordinance. The goal is to address and eliminate neglected property and garbage that compromises health, safety and property enjoyment.
If you have concerns about blight within the Village and do not feel comfortable speaking with the property owner/resident directly, you can file a complaint by clicking on the button below or by contacting the Village President by text or email. All reports of blight will be kept anonymous and the Village will submit the formal complaint to the Code Enforcement Officer.
All reports should include pictures as evidence of code violations.
